Halloween (2007) – October Mini

To start of my Halloween season, what better movie is there to pick than Halloween. This year I decided to go with the Rob Zombie version because I had myself a Rob Zombie marathon back in August. I waited until October for this one in order to give the movie its best chance.

I’ve been a hater of this movie in the past, I’ll admit it, but this time around I found more merit in it. The movie has really grown on me in a way that I never would’ve thought it could after watching it for the first time. I realized there’s no use comparing this version to the original because in no world will this remake win. With that mindset, I actually enjoyed this movie.

While I still think it’s way too long, the Michael-as-a-kid section of this movie sets a foundation for what comes later. The general consensus states that what makes Michael Myers scary is that he doesn’t have a reason for his evil, but maybe this Michael should. We’re dealing with a different beast in the Zombie movie. If there’s one thing we know about his movies, it’s that he likes to show a lot. But I really think this works for this type of gritty movie. Besides, it’s not like the first half of the movie really explains why Michael is evil.

As more movies in the Halloween franchise are made, this entry is slowing rising in my rankings for the series.

October Rating:

7/10
